Install & verify
Skirmisher is free — no in-app account or licence key. Download the installer for your OS, then follow the one-time first-launch step below.
Why the security warning? Skirmisher is an independent build that isn’t code-signed yet, so macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen show a warning the first time you open it. It’s expected — the steps below get you past it. Signed builds are planned.
macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel)
- Download
Skirmisher-1.0.1-arm64.dmg(Apple Silicon) or the Intel build. - Open the
.dmgand drag Skirmisher into Applications. - First launch: open Applications, right-click (or Control-click) Skirmisher → Open, then click Open in the dialog. (Double-clicking the first time shows “unidentified developer” and won’t open — the right-click → Open is the one-time way past Gatekeeper.) After that, open it normally.
Windows (10 / 11)
- Download
Skirmisher-Setup-1.0.1.exe. - Run it. If Windows protected your PC (SmartScreen) appears, click More info → Run anyway, then finish the installer.
- Launch Skirmisher from the Start menu.
Linux
- AppImage: download
Skirmisher-1.0.1-x86_64.AppImage, make it executable (chmod +x), and run it. - Debian/Ubuntu: download the
.deband install it (sudo apt install ./Skirmisher-1.0.1-amd64.deb).
Verify your download
Because the installers are unsigned, the checksum is how you confirm your download is bit-for-bit what we published. A SHA256SUMS.txt is published alongside the installers here. After downloading, compute your file’s SHA-256 and compare it with the matching line — any difference means a corrupted or tampered download: delete it and download again.
macOS shasum -a 256 Skirmisher-1.0.1-arm64.dmg Windows certutil -hashfile Skirmisher-Setup-1.0.1.exe SHA256 Linux sha256sum Skirmisher-1.0.1-x86_64.AppImage
The SHA-256 for each build is also shown under its download button on the Skirmisher page.
